Welcome to our discussion forum!

Post by George Mochrie »

As part of an effort to improve our web presence we're proud to launch our new discussion forum. Feel free to explore and play with all the knobs and twiddly bits. It's all free, so if you break anything you don't even need to pay for it! It's all very new, more information will be added in time. Hopefully we'll have a whole new website eventually, consider this a starting point.

One of the primary aims of this new platform is to bring all us Planet Sutherlings together in the same place. We're a principled bunch, and as a result some of us don't use Facebook, some of us don't use Google and (for some reason) some of us don't use email. This website is created and run entirely by us, has no corporate links, tracking or advertising of any kind. It runs on a web host powered by renewable energy. It should work equally well on any device with a web browser. Hopefully it's somewhere we can all agree to be, somewhere no one will object to, and somewhere we can for the first time gather in our entirety.

For those of you who are new to discussion forums, here's a quick overview... There are a number of forums, each of which is used for a different kind of communication. Each forum contains a number of topics, which are discussions on a particular, um, topic :) Each message within these topics is called a post. These are two main sections. The Planet Sutherland section is used for announcements and news, you may post in reply to topics but you can't start your own topics. The Community section is where you can create your own topics, share your thoughts and connect with other Planet Sutherlings.

It's pretty simple, there's no need to use everything that's available to you, but... You can personalise your account with an avatar, a signature and more. You can send private messages to other users. You can have updates on the news and discussions emailed to you. There are a whole host of options. If you want to explore the possibilities in more depth there is documentation here.

You might want to have a look at the control panel where you can set your options. You can specify what email notifications you'd like to receive here. If you want to be alerted by email when new posts are made in a particular forum then click the little tick at the bottom right of that forum's page, or to be emailed when a new post is made in a specific topic then click the little spanner just above the first post in the topic and select "Subscribe topic".

If you have any comments questions, suggestions or problems then please reply to this post, let me know what you think.
I'm a moderate, it's the mainstream that's extremist.
